School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT) | 2026-2027 School Year | New Mexico

Position Overview

  • School-Based Occupational Therapist
  • 2026-2027 School Year
  • Approximately 30 hours per week
  • On-site position
  • Multiple school locations within the district
  • Pre-K through 12th-grade student population
  • Approximately 40 students on caseload
  • Diverse range of disabilities and support needs
  • Position Responsibilities

    The Occupational Therapist will play a vital role in helping students access their educational environment and develop the functional skills necessary for academic success.

    Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and assessments
  • Developing individualized treatment plans based on student needs and educational goals
  • Providing direct and indirect occupational therapy services in accordance with IEPs
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, special education staff, and families
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and IEP meetings
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed
  • Providing recommendations for adaptive equipment, classroom accommodations, and environmental modifications
  • Supporting the development of fine motor, visual motor, sensory regulation, self-help, and functional life skills
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines
  • Assisting students in maximizing independence and participation within the school setting
  • Student Population

    The selected therapist will work with students across a wide range of ages and abilities, including:

  • Early childhood and preschool students
  • Elementary, middle, and high school students
  • Students receiving special education services
  • Students with developmental, physical, sensory, neurological, orthopedic, cognitive, and behavioral needs
  • Students requiring support with fine motor development, handwriting, sensory processing, daily living skills, classroom participation, and functional independence
  • Preferred Qualifications

    While all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, ideal candidates may possess:

  • Active Occupational Therapist license
  • Previous school-based experience preferred
  • Pediatric therapy experience preferred
  • Experience working with IEPs and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of special education procedures and educational service delivery models
  • Strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to effectively manage a caseload and prioritize responsibilities
  • Experience supporting students with diverse educational and therapeutic needs
